Stamp featuring Capt. Cook at Poverty Bay a bright spot in New Zealand market

Captain Cook is a popular stamp-collecting topic. In 1935, New Zealand issued a 2-shilling Captain Cook Landing at Poverty Bay stamp (Scott 197). In 1937, the stamp received a vertical “Official” overprint to become an Official stamp (Scott O71).

Eid stamp from Canada includes elements from Islamic architecture

The nondenominated, “P” domestic-rate (85¢) stamp was issued May 24 to recognize “Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, two of the most important festivals celebrated by Muslims in Canada and worldwide,” according to Canada Post. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the month-long Ramadan fast. This year Eid al-Fitr begins on the evening of June 25 and ends June 26.

President Trump’s 2018 budget resurrects unpopular USPS cost-cutting initiatives

The president’s long-awaited ideas were contained on page 1207 of an annex to Trump’s proposed fiscal 2018 federal budget, released May 23. That’s where the president urged Congress to give the U.S. Postal Service “authority to reduce mail delivery frequency where there is a business case for doing so.”
