Fall ASDA 100th anniversary show Oct. 23-26 with 234 frames of exhibits to be judged

Under the direction of experienced international-level philatelists Colin Fraser and Stanley Piller, the Fall 2014 American Stamp Dealers Association National Postage Stamp Show in New York City will feature a 234-frame competitive exhibition that will be judged exclusively using international evaluation standards.

The show will take place Oct. 23-26 at the New York Hilton Midtown at 1335 Avenue of the Americas and will observe the 100th anniversary of the ASDA.

“The exhibition is unprecedented,” said Piller. “With America’s next international exhibition scheduled for the spring of 2016, our event is giving 35 exhibitors an opportunity to see how their exhibits measure up under international (Federation Internationale de Philatelie, or F.I.P.) regulations.

“A jury of F.I.P.-accredited judges will evaluate the entries. Soon to be announced, there will be some very special awards to be bestowed by our jury.”

A list of exhibits that will compete in the show are as follows: The United States Issues of 1851-1856 and Their Importance in an Expanding Postal System; The U.S. 1869 Pictorial Issue Used in International Mails; United States — The 10¢ Issue; U.S. Postal Uses of the 12¢ 1861 Issue; My Victoria — Imperforate Line Engraved Stamps of Great Britain from Plate Position CG; 1909 Hudson-Fulton Stamp; The Half-Penny (Decimal) Machin; British India—Queen Victoria Postal Stationery;

The Progression of New York Foreign Mail Cancels 1845-1878; The Telegraph in America; Control and Taxation of Alcohol During Prohibition; Fighting the Fed in Philadelphia: Carrier, Local Posts and Independent Mails, 1835 to 1868; Artist Drawings, Essays, and Proofs of the 1948 Do’ar Ivri Issue of Israel; Bermuda, Postal History from 1620 to the UPU; U.S. Bicolor Postage Stamp Issues of 1869, 1873 and 1901; Egypt’s Fourth Issue 1879-1913; The Magical World of Harry Potter; Egyptian Postal Stationery to the End of the Monarchy; Mickey Mouse; The Vietnam War; Palestine Military Administration 1914-1920; and The St. Louis Postmaster’s Provisionals.

Fraser and Piller, co-exhibits chairmen for the event, developed this exhibition to help the American exhibiting community prepare for World Stamp Show-NY 2016. No competitive exhibition held in this country has been judged, exclusively, under F.I.P. judging standards.

In addition to the international bourse of 60 dealers, the show will feature a number of special events, including U.S. Postal Service, United Nations and Grenada first-day-of-issue ceremonies, and a Saturday evening awards dinner for exhibitors, dealers, judges and showgoers.

For the first time in more than a decade, the show, in its 65th year, moves to midtown Manhattan in the ballroom of one of the city’s largest and best known hotels.

Admission to the show is free. Families will be welcomed, and youngsters will receive a free “My Stamp Album” in the event’s youth area. More activities and events are being planned and will be announced soon.
