Circus World postmark offered May 5 in Baraboo, Wis.
The May 5 Baraboo, Wis., postmark celebrating the new Vintage Circus Posters commemorative stamps issued that day.
The first Ringling Brothers “big top performance” was held May 19, 1884, in Baraboo, Wis. Baraboo today is the home of the Circus World museum, a Wisconsin historic site.
On May 5, the United States Postal Service issued eight Vintage Circus Posters stamps at a first-day ceremony in Sarasota, Fla.
On the same day, the Baraboo post office held a ceremony at the museum and sold stamps out of a Cole Brothers circus ticket wagon. The cancellation shown here was offered at the Baraboo event.
