Date meets ZIP code is still a celebrated occasion

Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke
The worlds of postcard enthusiasts
and postal historians collided Feb. 6 in Cobb Island, Md. Members of the
Capitol-Beltway Postcard Club marked a special occasion when the calendar date
aligned perfectly with Cobb Island’s ZIP code, creating an interesting “date
meets ZIP code” event.
Members of the club gathered at the
Cobb Island post office to commemorate the coinciding ZIP code (20625) and date
(2/06/25) occurrence.
The club created a cool postcard
featuring an image of Cobb Island captured by photographer Bruce Jenkins, a
longtime Cobb County resident, known locally for his commercial photography.
According to the club, the community
showed great enthusiasm for the event. Approximately 200 postcards were mailed
as part of the special occasion.
Founded in 1976, the Capitol-Beltway
Postcard Club brings together deltiologists — dealers, collectors, and
enthusiasts who share a passion for postcards. The club regularly participates
in postcard shows and organizes events for its members.
For more information about the
Capitol-Beltway Postcard Club or future events, contact club vice president
Clarissa Ferraris or visit the club’s website.
The club’s next major event will be a Postcrossing meetup on June 8 at the Napex stamp show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner in McLean, Va.
