New stamps planned for USPS 250th anniversary
Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke
The United States Postal Service is commemorating its 250th anniversary with new commemorative stamps, celebrating a legacy of continuous service since 1775. The stamps, unveiled April 28, are highlighted in the May 19 issue of Linn’s Stamp News.
To honor this milestone, the Postal Service has introduced a new “Eagle in Flight” symbol. A press release detailing the new logo and anniversary plans were unveiled in late April. However, the new celebration logo has already been used on some ceremony programs starting in March. Shown nearby are the 250th logo and the Betty White commemorative stamp ceremony program with the logo prominently displayed in the lower left corner.
Developed in collaboration with the Turner Duckworth agency, the Postal Service states that this emblem reflects the organization’s historical roots and its commitment to future service, featuring confident wings and vibrant colors that embody a spirit of celebration.
Acting Postmaster General Doug Tulino emphasized the enduring importance of the Postal Service in a press release, stating, “The founders of our great nation saw the intrinsic need of postal services as the United States was born — even before the country itself was formed. Since that time, our universal mail system has strengthened the bonds of friendship, family and community.”
Throughout 2025 the Postal Service, established on July 26, 1775, plans to host various events and releases to celebrate its 250th anniversary including: commemorative stamps, a USPS-licensed coffee-table book, a 250th anniversary edition of The United States Postal Service: An American History, assorted branded merchandise, a special episode of the Mail with Mr. ZIP YouTube series focusing on the 250th anniversary, a special advertising campaign using the “Delivering since 1775” theme, social media, podcasts, and blog posts to commemorate the milestone, and other events to be announced as the anniversary approaches.
Additional updates on the USPS’s 250th-anniversary activities will be included in future issues of Linn’s Stamp News.Connect with Linn’s Stamp News:
