The city of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, celebrated the Jan. 15 inauguration of its mayor Julio Roldan Concepcion with the commemorative postmark shown nearby.

A member of the Popular Democratic Party, Concepcion first assumed the mayor’s office on Jan. 11, 2021, and recently won reelection in the city’s general election held Nov. 3, 2024.

Concepcion was born in Aguadilla and grew up in a humble home with a working-class family. He attended the Carmen Gomez Tejera Elementary School and graduated from high school at Jose De Diego.

After graduation Concepcion joined the National Guard and, upon completing his service, became a correctional officer in Puerto Rico’s Department of Corrections.

Following his brief time in law enforcement, Concepcion returned to school and pursued a second career as a

financial advisor.

His political aspirations began in September 2018 when he assumed the presidency of the Popular Democratic Party in Aguadilla.

Best known for his unifying message, on Nov. 3, 2020, he was elected as Aguadilla’s 23rd mayor, but only its 10th elected mayor.

Inauguration day for his reelection was Jan. 15, and Concepcion’s current term in office ends Jan. 8, 2029.
