A special Fajardo, Puerto Rico, postmark has been issued to bring awareness to Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive neurological disorder that impacts memory, thinking and behavior. The postmark, featuring a detailed brain illustration surrounded by leaves and droplets, symbolizes cognitive decline and the importance of awareness.

On Aug. 31, 2024, the Organization for the Care of People with Alzheimer’s (OPAPA) hosted the Casa Abierta education fair at their headquarters in San Juan, marking the beginning of World Alzheimer’s Month.

The event, held in collaboration with the Puerto Rico Department of Health, focused on educating and supporting caregivers and families affected by Alzheimer’s.

The fair featured a dance and movement session to promote mental balance; a panel titled A Coffee for Alzheimer’s, where experts discussed various aspects of the disease; and a talk on available services for those affected.

Marisol Pieras, executive director of OPAPA, emphasized the significance of community support and informed caregiving, because Alzheimer’s impacts not only patients but also their families and caregivers.

The postmark’s availability has been extended by 30 days. To obtain it, address your request to:

ALZHEIMER AWARENESS Station, Customer Relations Specialist, 585 Ave. FD Roosevelt, Suite 223, San Juan, PR 00936-9998, Aug. 30.
