USPS records gains in mail delivery during 2025 holiday mailing season
By Linn’s Staff
The United States Postal Service reported improvements in on-time mail delivery during the holiday mailing season, according to a Jan. 15 press release.
On average, the USPS said, mail items and packages were delivered within 2.5 days, compared to 2.8 days for the previous holiday mail period, which ran from Nov. 15, 2024, to Jan. 9, 2025. Total mail volume for the 2025 holiday season was 16 billion, according to the USPS.
The Postal Service credits significant investments in new technology and new logistics planning and execution for improvements in delivery times during the holiday season.
Overall, on-time delivery scores increased in almost all cases, with the top scores being in the Postal Service’s last mile Destination Delivery Units, the Postal Service said.
“These results reflect the tenacity of our workforce as well as the network improvements we continue to implement,” said Postmaster General David Steiner. “We will keep improving service throughout the coming year — optimizing our network, strengthening reliability, improving delivery times, and ensuring high value products and services for residential and business customers in every community we serve.”
Compared to the 2025 holiday season, the Postal Service saw a 23 percent drop in calls to its customer care center and a 44 percent decrease in package-related customer service inquiries.
“Overall customer experience scores related to customer inquiries, which are obtained using customer satisfaction surveys, showed increased satisfaction of 6.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year,” the Postal Service said.
