Canada Post semipostal series continues

By David Hartwig
Canada Post issued a semipostal stamp April 28 to raise funds for children through the Canada Post Community Foundation.
The stamp design shows giraffes with their young. Canada Post said: “The stamp represents a supportive community and highlights the importance of providing every child the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and enriching environment.”
The stamp is nondenominated, paying the permanent rate for domestic letters weighing up to 30 grams (currently $1.24). This is represented by the letter P inside a maple leaf in the upper right corner of the design. The “+10” beside the P symbol indicates the 10¢ surtax above the face value that goes to the foundation.
Canada Post is selling the self-adhesive stamp in booklets of 10 with $1 from the sale of each booklet going to the Canada Post Community Foundation to find nonprofit groups that assist Canadian youth.
According to Canada Post, this foundation has provided $14.8 million to more than 1,300 initiatives in Canada since 2012.
The Montreal artist Anne-Julie Dudemaine illustrated the stamp, which was designed by Paprika and printed in a quantity of 200,000 booklets of 10. Canada Post employees chose the design of the stamp.
Canada Post serviced 5,000 first-day covers with an Ottawa, Ontario, cancellation for this semipostal stamp. Canada Post also printed international-rate (currently $3.65) postal cards with artwork from the stamp design in a quantity of 5,000.
The purchase price of the FDC and postal card includes a 10¢ donation to the Canada Post Community Foundation.
The Canada Post ordering numbers are 414288111 for the booklet pane of 10, 414288131 for the FDC and 262540 for the postal card.
This semipostal is the 14th issue in an annual series that began in 2012 (Scott B19) with the establishment of the Canada Post Community Foundation.
The new stamp and related products are available from Canada Post, and by mail order from Canada Post Customer Service, Box 90022, 2701 Riverside Drive, Ottawa, ON K1V 1J8 Canada; or by telephone from the United States or Canada at 800-565-4362, and from other countries at 902-863-6550.
