Ellison, Anderson stamps unveiled
The designs for the upcoming United States 91¢ Ralph Ellison stamp and the 70¢ C. Alfred “Chief” Anderson stamp were revealed Jan. 16 by the U.S. Postal Service.
Though the Ellison stamp resembles a commemorative, it is denominated at the 3-ounce domestic letter rate effective Jan. 26.
A February issue date is anticipated. The first-day location was not announced.
The Ellison stamp continues the Literary Arts series as the 29th entry. Ellison was the author of the acclaimed 1952 novel Invisible Man.
Artist Kadir Nelson created the illustration for the stamp following the same layout as previous stamps in the series.
The horizontal stamp has a portrait of Ellison set in front of a Harlem street scene at twilight.
Anderson, an aviation pioneer, is honored with a stamp in the Distinguished Americans series. The painting on the stamp is placed within a dark blue frame.
It is scheduled to be issued March 13 in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
