Evergreen holiday postmark appears nationwide

Dec 23, 2025, 8 AM
A new sprayed-on postmark showing a single tree with a star atop began appearing on mail in December for the 2025 holiday season.

Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke

A single evergreen tree appears on a new holiday sprayed-on postmark that likely went into use nationwide on Dec. 1.

The example pictured nearby turned up on mail received in the Linn’s offices in Troy, Ohio, in early December from the mail processing plant in Trenton, N.J.

The Dec. 4 postmark has a clear strike of the design that shows the tree with the scripted text “Happy” along with “Holidays.”

I thought the postmark went quite well with the franking on this envelope (shown cropped): a snowy scene with a home and trees from the Winter Landscapes forever stamps issued in September.

For collectors who find postmarks interesting, I highly recommend checking out the website of the Post Mark Collectors Club at www.postmarks.org.

You can explore sections on the website, which include directories of post offices and information on the Margie Pfund Memorial Postmark Museum and Research Library near Bellevue, Ohio.

The club’s website also showcases an impressive collection of more than 30,000 photos of post offices in the United States, U.S. territories and some other countries.

I have visited the museum and found it to be very interesting and worth a stop if you find yourself traveling near Cleveland, Ohio.
