Movember postmark from Royal Mail in Great Britain
Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke
Slogan postmarks often are designed to get your attention, and the example shown nearby sure did for me. If only the postmark had landed just a little lower and to the right on Britain’s King Charles III stamp, but I digress.
This Royal Mail “Movember” postmark features a large mustache and the text “The Moustache’s Calling. Raise funds. Save lives. Sign up now.”
According to the Movember website, “Movember, the month formerly known as ‘November,’ is a moustache-growing charity event that raises funds and awareness for men’s health.”
Royal Mail first used a Movember mustache postmark in 2012, with support being given to the charity Prostate Cancer UK.
The Movember Foundation now focuses on three areas impacting men’s health: mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
The Movember postmark example I received was from the North & West Yorkshire sorting facility and was dated Oct. 31, which was also the first day of use of the 2023 postmark and the kickoff date for the year’s fundraising campaign.
The Movember postmark designs have varied over the years from what I can see, and they could make an interesting small collection if one has an eagle eye to find them while looking through dealer boxes or scouring the internet for covers.
