New prestige booklet with engraved stamp and pane of 20 announced for USPS 250th

By Linn’s Staff
The United States Postal Service announced April 28 two stamp issues commemorating its 250th anniversary. The nation’s postal system was established July 26, 1775. The two stamp issues pay tribute to the agency’s rich history and its ongoing role in American society.
Both are scheduled to be issued in July, possibly on or around the July 26 anniversary date.
The first release is a “Putting a Stamp on the American Experience” prestige booklet. The prestige booklet will have 20 stamps (two panes of 10), and is the fourth such prestige booklet to be issued by the Postal Service in its history.
The 32-page book is titled Putting a Stamp on the American Experience. This booklet celebrates the cultural significance of U.S. stamps, highlighting popular stamp series and subjects that have defined the nation’s postal history.
Included exclusively with the booklet are two self-adhesive panes of stamps featuring an intaglio-printed commemorative forever stamp of Benjamin Franklin. This stamp is inspired by an 1875 reproduction of the original 1847 5¢ stamp (Scott 1).
From the preliminary image provided it appears the stamp will be printed predominantly in red and blue with some light blue highlights.
The second stamp release is a 20-subject sheet titled “250 Years of Delivering.”
The pane of 20 stamps is illustrated by renowned cartoonist Chris Ware. The vibrant design of the pane moves from stamp to stamp inviting the public to engage in a mail carrier’s journey along their postal route through the four seasons, showcasing familiar postal items and icons along the way.
Additional information about these two stamp releases will be published in a future issue of Linn’s Stamp News.
