In a Dec. 3 press release, PostNord, Denmark’s state-run postal service, explained how unused postage stamps could be refunded after letter deliveries end Dec. 30.

In Denmark postage stamps will no longer be valid in 2026. Unused stamps issued in 2024 and 2025 can be refunded between Jan. 2, 2026, and June 30, 2026.

The last day to submit basic mail in Denmark is Dec. 18, which is also the last day of sale for postage stamps.

A souvenir sheet of two stamps issued Sept. 12 shows reproductions of Denmark’s first two stamp issues from 1851 (Scott 1 and 2). If Denmark stops issuing stamps entirely after 2025, this issue provides a symmetrical close to Denmark’s stamp program.

The move to stop letter deliveries follows a transition period that began after the Jan. 1, 2024, Postal Act ended the universal postal service in Denmark.

PostNord announced March 6, 2025, that it will stop letter deliveries in Denmark at the end of the year, saying that the move allows PostNord to focus on the core service of parcels.

Since June the postal service has been dismantling Denmark’s 1,500 mailboxes located throughout the country.

Denmark stamps are available for purchase online at www.nordfrim.com/stamps.
