On Sept. 19 in Danville, Ind., the United States Postal Service will issue five definitive (regular-issue) stamps featuring vibrant photographs of snowy landscapes from around the United States.

The nondenominated (78¢) Winter Landscapes stamps will be issued in double-sided panes of 20.

The stamps were designed by USPS art director Ethel Keller using existing photos taken by Mike Blottenberger, John Moore, Carson O’Ffill, Juanita Phillips and Katherine Plessner.

“Winter Landscapes celebrates the beauty and serenity of snow,” the Postal Service said. “The five different photographs featured in this booklet of 20 stamps showcase the special allure of winter with snowy landscapes from around the United States.”

Leisha Palmore-Drummond of USPS corporate communications told Linn’s Stamp News that an official USPS first-day ceremony for the Winter Landscapes stamps is not planned.

A local first-day event sponsored by the Indiana Stamp Club will take place Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. Eastern Time at the Indypex stamp show, Palmore-Drummond said.

A first-day program produced by Linn’s Stamp News will be available to attendees.

Moore and Phillips, two of the photographers whose work appears on the Winter Landscapes stamps, will be at the event.

Indypex is being held Sept. 19-21 at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Conference Complex, 1900 E. Main St., in Danville, Ind. For more information, visit the Indypex website, https://indianastampclub.org/indy.html. …

The Postal Service is offering two postmarks as first-day cancels for the Winter Landscapes stamps.

The black postmark is applied free, up to a quantity of 50, to most collector-submitted covers. There is a 5¢ charge for each additional postmark over 50.

The postmark features the first-day location details in a circular dial to the left of the standard “FIRST DAY OF ISSUE” four-bar killer.

A full-color pictorial postmark is also available. The first-day details, shown in several shades of green, accompany a stylized scene of three pine trees being covered with falling snow. The stamps’ name is rendered in a flowing, lowercase cursive script.

The color postmark can be obtained by collectors on envelopes made from laser-safe paper. There is an order minimum of 10 envelopes with a fee of 50¢ per postmark. The Postal Bulletin provides additional ordering information.

Both postmarks are also applied to first-day covers manufactured and sold by the Postal Service.

All requests for Winter Landscapes first-day cancels must be postmarked by Jan. 19, 2026.
