Tagged 2003 Eagle and Shield strip of 10 is elusive
Stamp Market Tips by Henry Gitner and Rick Miller
On June 26, 2003, the U.S. Postal Service issued 10 nondenominated (25¢) Eagle and Shield horizontal coil stamps (Scott 3792-3801).
The stamps were designed by Tom Engeman and printed by the American Packaging Corp. for Sennett Security Products. The stamps are untagged and have gauge 11¾ vertical serpentine die cuts.
The stamps were also issued on paper with phosphorescent tagging (Scott 3792a-3801a).
The Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps and Covers values an untagged strip of 10 (Scott 3801b) in mint condition at $5. A tagged strip of 10 (Scott 3801c) is listed but not valued.
The untagged strip of 10 is common and readily available. The tagged strip of 10 is surprisingly elusive. As a result, we can’t find much pricing information on it; evidently neither can the Scott catalog editors.
If you see the tagged strip of 10 on offer, we think it is a good buy at up to $20. But check carefully to make sure it has the phosphorescent tagging.
