U.S. 2012 Dogs at Work se-tenant pane in demand

Full mint se-tenant panes of fairly recent U.S. stamps remain one of the hottest segments of the U.S. stamp market.

On Jan. 20, 2012, the U.S. Postal Service issued a set of four se-tenant 65¢ Dogs at Work stamps (Scott 4604-4607). The stamps were designed by Howard E. Paine and printed by Avery Dennison using the photogravure process.

The self-adhesive stamps with phosphorescent tagging have gauge 10¾ serpentine die cuts. They were printed in sheets of 240 divided into 12 panes of 20 for distribution and sale.

The stamp designs depict a seeing-eye dog, a therapy dog, a military working dog and a rescue dog.

The Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps and Covers values the mint pane of 20 at $26 against a postage value of $13 (double face value, the Scott minimum for mint U.S. new issues).

The stamp designs feature a popular topic, and there is demand in the aftermarket. A mint pane of 20 is a good buy at $18 to $24.
