ASDA begins search for new executive director

Apr 1, 2014, 9 AM

The American Stamp Dealers Association ended its relationship with executive director Amy Nicklaus March 31, and has initiated a search for a new executive director.

Evan “Van” Siegling of Columbus, Ohio, was appointed interim executive director April 1, according to ASDA president Mark Reasoner.

Siegling was involved in outreach efforts on the first day of his appointment, Reasoner told Linn’s Stamp News, and would be looking into potential show venues and taking on additional tasks immediately.

Reasoner said that a search committee would begin the process of seeking and recommending a candidate as permanent executive director.

The committee will consist of Reasoner, ASDA immediate past president Jim Lee, and ASDA secretary Richard A. Friedberg.

Reasoner told Linn’s that he expected Siegling to be a strong candidate for the open position.

There is no deadline for naming the next permanent director.

Siegling recently retired from the United States Department of Defense, where his work included negotiating and working with vendor contracts. He is a lifelong collector with experience organizing and staging trade shows and science fiction and fantasy conventions.

Nicklaus, a native of Miami, was appointed ASDA director of shows, publication and media at the beginning of 2012, and was named ASDA executive director Oct. 13 of that year. She had previously worked in radio and television, and operated her own marketing and public relations firm.

As part of the transition, Lee will assume responsibility for the American Stamp Dealer and Collector magazine, working with editor Randy Neil. Tami Jackson, who has provided bookkeeping services for the association, will assume additional responsibilities and maintain the ASDA website.

The American Stamp Dealers Association was established in 1914 and includes members from across the United States and in many countries around the world.
