Rudolph and friends on postmarks
Rudolph appears most often on this year's holiday-season postmarks.
This Phoenix, Ariz., postmark shows Bumble.
Hermey the elf is featured on this postmark from Duluth, Minn.
Santa is shown on this postmark from the state of Washington.
The United States Postal Service has added four faces to its holiday-season postmarks from locations all over the country.
The sprayed-on markings show four characters from the 1964 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer television special: Santa Claus, Hermey the elf, the Bumble (the Abominable Snow Monster of the North), and Rudolph.
An informal observation of Linn’s mail in recent weeks shows that Rudolph is appearing most frequently, and postmarks with the Bumble show up less frequently than any of the others.
Because the postmarks are applied automatically to daily mail by the U.S. mail distribution centers, the trick will be to collect each postmark on the appropriate matching stamp from the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer set of four issued Nov. 6.
The Rudolph postmark pictured here is struck on the matching Rudolph stamp.
