Circus Posters stamps in April
New Vintage Circus Posters commemorative stamps will soon appear at post offices nationwide.
In mid-April, the United States Postal Service will issue 16 stamps showing images of circus posters.
USPS stamp services executive director Susan McGowan told Linn’s Stamp News that the Postal Service has been working in conjunction with Ringling Brothers on the stamp set, and that the artwork was recently finalized.
The first-day ceremony details are tentative, but leaning toward an event in Sarasota, Fla., home to the Ringling Circus Museum and archives.
This will be the fourth U.S. stamp issue with a circus theme.
A 5¢ stamp in 1966 marked the 100th anniversary of John Ringling’s birth (Scott 1309). In 1990, a 5¢ Circus Wagon coil stamp was issued as part of the Transportation definitive series (2452).
A block of four 29¢ Circus stamps was issued in 1993 (Scott 2750-2753).
