USPS bans electronic cigarettes

The United States Postal Service has announced it is amending its smoking ban to prohibit the use of electronic cigarettes in any of its facilities.

The notice was published May 15 in the USPS Postal Bulletin, the official source of policy updates.

The aim is to ban use of the new “lighted or activated electronic cigar, cigarette, pipe, or other smoking material” in all buildings or office space.

Smoking of tobacco products is banned in all post office buildings and office spaces (including service lobbies) owned or leased by the Postal Service.

Local postal managers, with input from employee groups, still may decide to approve smoking in designated outdoor locations on Postal Service property, the announcement said.
