Worldwide, U.S. material in Nov. 22 Rasdale auction
This 1½¢-on-2¢ green United States surcharged envelope from 1925 will be offered during the Rasdale Stamp Co. Nov. 22 auction of U.S. and worldwide stamps, covers and collections.
Rasdale Stamp Co. will hold its 422nd public auction Nov. 22 in two sessions at the firm’s gallery near Chicago.
The auction includes 1,330 lots from 97 different owners, with singles, sets, covers and collections. The 9 a.m. session will include United States general issues, airmails and back of the book, as well as general foreign sales.
The worldwide material includes the 1923 souvenir sheet from Luxembourg commemorating the Dec. 22, 1922, birth of Princess Elisabeth (later the Duchess of Hohenberg). The souvenir sheet containing a single 10-franc green View of Luxembourg stamp is generally considered to be the first souvenir sheet issued worldwide (Scott 151). It is listed by Rasdale with the 2014 Scott Classic Specialized Catalogue of Stamps and Covers 1840-1940 value of $1,100.
The U.S. material includes unused and used postal stationery, and cut squares.
One item on offer is an unused entire of the 1925 2¢ green envelope with 1½¢ black surcharge (Scott U486), described by Rasdale as bright and very fine, with a couple of natural inclusion specks. The unused envelope is valued in the 2015 Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps and Covers at $1,250, the same value provided with the lot description.
Collections, supplies, literature and more will be offered during the 1 p.m. afternoon session.
Individual lots can be viewed and bids can be placed at www.rasdalestamps.com. Information is also available by writing Rasdale Stamp Co., 35 Chestnut Ave., Westmont, IL 60559-1127; or telephone 630-794-9900.
