Flaming Gorge Dam dedication anniversary
A recent pictorial postmark in Dutch John, Utah, celebrates the 50 anniversary of the dedication of the Flaming Gorge Dam.
The management of water in the western United States has been making headlines for some time now.
An Aug. 16 pictorial postmark from Dutch John, Utah, continues that conversation, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Flaming Gorge Dam dedication.
Construction on the dam, part of the Colorado River storage project, started in June 1958. It was completed in late 1962, but the official dedication took place Aug. 17, 1964. Lady Bird Johnson, first lady at the time, took part in the dedication ceremony.
The Lady Bird Johnson forever stamp from the souvenir sheet issued in 2012 (Scott 4716f) would be a fitting stamp to use when acquiring this new postmark.
To obtain this cancellation, which has a 30-day extension, send requests to:
RECLAMATION Station, Postmaster, 690 S. Boulevard, Dutch John, UT 84023-8002, Aug. 16.
