Actor Danny Glover joins with postal union over USPS wages
The American Postal Workers Union was planning to add some star power to its bargaining team when it opens wage talks with the United States Postal Service Feb. 19.
Actor Danny Glover, the son of two postal workers and the face in videos promoting a new postal advocacy group, will join union leaders when the talks open, the APWU announced.
The union also said it will be pressing for banking, license services and notary services at post offices, as well as better wages and benefits, in the talks.
"The Postal Service must take advantage of the explosion in e-commerce and better serve the people," said union president Mark Diamondstein in a news release issued before the talks opened.
Glover has been the voice of a new coalition of labor and advocacy groups, called A Grand Alliance To Save Our Public Postal Service, that will press Congress for keeping the agency operating without the planned cuts postal management is proposing.
