Boston to host international stamp show in 2026
The American Philatelic Society has selected Boston, Mass., to host the international stamp show that will take place in 2026.
As the national stamp collecting organization in the United States, the APS is responsible for making the location selection.
During its Feb. 12 board meeting at the APS Ameristamp Expo in Riverside, Calif., the APS board heard a presentation by one if its own directors, Yamil Kouri, on the benefits of selecting Boston for the site of the international show that is more than 11 years away.
The show is scheduled to take place May 23-30, 2026. It will be the next international show in the United States after World Stamp Show-NY 2016 at New York City's Jacob Javits Convention Center, May 28-June 4, 2016.
Also participating in the Boston presentation were Mark Butterline, Nancy Clark and Jane Pritzker of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Kouri identified five main requirements for the host city to provide: a good location, a show theme, a base of support, an experienced committee, and finances.
The timing of the show will correspond with the 250th anniversary of the United States, Kouri noted, and the significance of Boston in the nation's struggle for independence will provide a thematic backdrop for the international show.
The show will take place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in the city's Seaport district, close to Logan International Airport. The venue is also near numerous Boston tourist destinations.
The show is supported by the Northeastern Federation of Stamp Clubs, Kouri said, which has dedicated $10,000 to secure the convention center.
Following a discussion period, APS immediate past president Wade E. Saadi moved to grant Boston auspices for the 2026 show. Saadi is also president of World Stamp Show-NY 2016.
The motion passed unanimously.
