Taylor and Slabbinck share CCC Pratt award
James R. Taylor and Henk Slabbinck are the 2014 recipients of the Collectors Club of Chicago’s Pratt award for the best-judged article or other publication related to the philately of Newfoundland, according to a Jan. 27 press release from the club.
Taylor of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Slabbinck of Nieuwport, Belgium, co-authored Mail from the French Shore of Newfoundland handbook, for which they received the award. The handbook was published in 2014 by FriesenPress.
Initiated in 1997, the Pratt award is named for Col. Robert H. Pratt, the pre-eminent Newfoundland stamp and postal history collector, researcher and author.
The recipients are determined by the Collectors Club of Chicago Pratt award committee.
The award consists of a $1,000 honorarium to be shared by the recipients.
The Collectors Club of Chicago solicits published original research related to Newfoundland philately for consideration of the annual Pratt award.
