Two-day show coming to Monroeville, Pa.
Wilkpex 2015, the 65th annual stamp show sponsored by the Wilkinsburg Stamp Club, will take place April 18 and 19 at Gateway Hall, 4370 Northern Pike, Monroeville, Pa.
Gateway Hall is about one mile from the intersection of Routes 48 and U.S. 22, exit 57 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and the Plum exit of Interstate 376 East. Gateway Hall is less than ½ mile east of Route 48 South (Mosside Blvd.) on Northern Pike.
The show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are free, and the show is open to the public.
The show will include both judged and noncompetitive exhibits of stamps and postal history.
The bourse will include 11 dealers at 19 tables, plus a youth area with free stamps and a mentor to assist novice collectors of all ages.
Club members will offer bargain United States and worldwide stamps for all levels of collectors at the show’s “Philatelic Phlea Market.”
The Wilkpex 2015 humorous souvenir sheet continues a tradition initiated by the late Lou Yagle. This year’s souvenir sheet is a spoof of the U.S. 2014 Wedding Cake and Heart issue. This Lower Slobbovia souvenir sheet depicts a divorce stamp along with a broken heart.
The 2015 special show cancel and cachet honor Kent Tekulve, a former star relief pitcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1974 to 1985. Tekulve saved three games for the Pirates in the team’s 1979 World Series victory.
Both the souvenir sheet and cachet will be available at the show or by mail from Wilkinsburg Stamp Club, Box 10552, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
The cachet with cancellation is $2.50 each, or five for $10; the souvenir sheets are $1 each or two for $1.75.
For mail orders, a self-addressed, stamped, oversized envelope is required. Earlier souvenir sheets and cachets will be available at the show or by mail. Price lists and scans can be viewed on the club’s website.
