Germany testing parcel delivery to cars

The deliverery of packages to a car, rather than to a home address, is being tested in Munich, Germany, according to an April 22 press release from the Deutsche Post DHL Group.

The release said that DHL Parcel, Amazon and Audi joined forces “to launch a Germany-wide pilot project for a brand new service that will allow car owners to use their cars as mobile delivery addresses for their parcel shipments.”

For this service, the customer places an order with Amazon, and DHL Parcel delivers it to the trunk of the customer’s Audi. A smartphone app is used to confirm the car’s location.

“The three project partners have developed and tested their unique solution for car trunk delivery the past several months to ensure high security standards for both merchandise and automobiles,” the release stated.
