$5.60 Arlington Green Bridge almost gone

The United States $5.60 Arlington Green Bridge Priority Mail stamp issued Jan. 25, 2013, in panes of 10 (Scott 4738) was almost sold out as of early January.

The listing for the stamp was removed from the U.S. Postal Service sales website at http://shop.usps.com.

The stamp meets the current flat rate for Priority Mail envelopes. The design of the 2013 stamp shows an illustration of a Vermont covered bridge.

USPS spokesman Roy Betts told Linn’s Stamp News that because of the low quantity available, the Postal Service removed the stamp from sale on the website.

Betts said that a small number of panes was still available from the Postal Service by calling the toll-free telephone number for USPS Stamp Fulfillment Services at 800-782-6724.

According to USPS technical details provided shortly before the stamp was issued, 10 million of the gravure-printed stamps (1 million panes of 10) were created by security printer Avery Dennison of Clinton, S.C.

Betts stated that the stamp did not go back to press again after the initial print quantity.

While the stamp in a pane of 10 might be sold out through the fulfillment center, it is possible collectors could find it at a local post office.

A new $5.60 Priority Mail stamp showing the Verrazano Narrows Bridge is scheduled to be issued in March.
