American First Day Cover Society names Morgan as membership department chair
By Linn’s Staff
The American First Day Cover Society
named Patrick Morgan the new chair of its membership department and a member of
its executive committee, society president Lloyd de Vries said in a Nov. 20
press release.
Morgan spent 25 years managing
infrastructure architecture at IBM before retiring. He holds an MBA from
Washington University and has served four years on the board of the St. Louis
affiliate of the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation.
Morgan is also a member of the
American Philatelic Society, American Topical Association, Poster Stamp
Collectors Club and Greater Mound City Stamp Club, where he serves as
treasurer.
He collects topical and Artmaster
airmail first-day covers, in addition to postal cards with Fleetwood cachets.
His articles have appeared in First Days and Topical Time, the
journals of the American First Day Cover Society and American Topical
Association, respectively.
Morgan succeeds Foster Miller, who
had been the chair of the membership department since 2008. Miller will remain
chair of the sales department, de Vries said, and is also on the board.
“We could not have made it through
the past few years without Foster reconstructing and then maintaining our
membership records,” de Vries said. “Now, however, I want to lighten his load
and also put more emphasis on recruitment and retention of members.”
The American First Day Cover Society
is the largest not-for-profit first-day cover society in the world, with
members in more than a dozen countries. It publishes an award-winning journal, First
Days, six times a year; holds fundraising auctions; is a co-sponsor of the
annual Great American Stamp Show; conducts an annual cachetmaking contest; and
encourages philatelic exhibiting and writing about FDCs.
More information about the American First Day Cover Society is available online or by writing the AFDCS at Box 57, Somerset, WI 54025-0057.
