American Philatelic Society seeks director of education
By Linn’s Staff
In a Jan. 13 newsletter, the American Philatelic Society announced that it is seeking a director of education.
The APS is replacing Tomalei Vess, who will be leaving the APS. Vess has served as the society’s education director since Jan. 21, 2025.
“The Education Director is a collaborative, hands-on leader who drives the organization’s education strategy and leads the development of philatelic educational content,” the APS said in its description of the position that is posted on the APS website. “In collaboration and consultation with other APS directors and the Education Task Force, this role sets direction for how education supports member value and growth, including the production of philatelic education content across all experience levels and the administration of education programs.”
In the job description, the key responsibilities are split among three categories: educational content development (50 percent of the job); philatelic educational program administration (40 percent); and measurement, reporting and administration (10 percent).
Among the required qualifications is “at least two years’ experience leading course development, eLearning, or multimedia education and outreach initiatives,” according to the APS.
Preferred qualifications include “demonstrable experience using AI technology to streamline workflows and create highly engaging educational content,” the APS said.
“Someone with philatelic experience will be highly preferred for this role,” APS executive director Kirk Gillis told Linn’s Stamp News in a Jan. 13 email.
The application period will close at 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Feb. 3. The position requires a background check, and applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
