ATA announces 2024 Distinguished Topical Philatelist

By Linn’s Staff
Larry Davidson of Stratford, Ontario, Canada, won the American Topical Association’s 2024 Distinguished Topical Philatelist award, ATA president Dawn Hamman announced in a May 28 email.
The Distinguished Topical Philatelist award recognizes service to topical philately in general and to the ATA in particular. It is the highest award given by the association.
Davidson’s many roles include serving on the ATA’s board of directors. He received the Richard Powers award for lifetime achievement from United Nations Philatelists in 2023 and was honored as a show honoree at Orapex in 2022.
His primary thematic exhibit, “Beavers: Nature’s Engineers,” showcases Davidson’s writing style and sense of humor in addition to his philatelic knowledge. The exhibit won the grand award at the National Topical Stamp Show in 2015 and was featured in the ATA’s book Topical Adventures.
A committee consisting of past winners chooses the recipient of the Distinguished Topical Philatelist award. The nomination period is announced each fall, and the deadline for nominations is Dec. 31 each year.
More information on this and other awards from the ATA can be found on the association’s website.
