An exhibition at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Conn., displays original artworks associated with the United States federal duck stamp program.

The exhibition, titled “Conservation Through the Arts: Celebrating the Federal Duck Stamp,” runs through Feb. 9, 2025, and features works from the collection of U.S. duck stamp collector and enthusiast Richie Prager, who donated 68 original artworks to the Bruce Museum in 2021 (Linn’s, April 25, 2022, page 10).

Prager’s collection includes acrylic and oil paintings, drawings and other specialized material, including what the museum calls the “original etching plate” for prints of Richard Bishop’s winning duck stamp art entry that shows a trio of Canada geese in flight.

The exhibit shows prints by stamp artists such as Jay “Ding” Darling, Frank Weston Benson, David Maass, Owen Gromme, and Joseph, James and Robert Hautman. Carved decoys and waterfowl taxidermy are also on display.

According to details about the exhibit at the website of the museum, “Visitors will witness how the style of the drawings, etchings, and paintings evolved over time, learn about historical processes for translating art into stamp designs via engraving, and find out how deeply the Duck Stamp has permeated popular culture.”

The exhibit began Sept. 5, and the museum was the site of the 2024 federal duck stamp art contest held Sept. 19-20 (Linn’s, Oct. 14, page 6).

The Bruce Museum is located at 1 Museum Drive, Greenwich, Conn., and its hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. More information can be found at the aforementioned website or by calling (203) 869-0376.
