Extra-tall stamps for Wilt Chamberlain unveiled
The two United States Wilt Chamberlain commemorative forever stamps to be issued Dec. 5 in Philadelphia, Pa.
The designs for the 7-foot 1-inch NBA basketball star Wilt Chamberlain commemorative forever stamps to be issued Dec. 5 were unveiled in early October by the United States Postal Service.
Artist Kadir Nelson created the two illustrations for the stamps. One stamp shows Chamberlain in a Philadelphia Warriors uniform and the other wearing an L.A. Lakers uniform.
The extra-tall commemorative stamps each measure at a little more than 2 inches tall.
The official first-day ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. during a Philadelphia 76ers game.
Postal Service spokesman Mark Saunders told Linn’s that the ceremony will be “a special three-dimensional tribute video using the team’s state-of-the-art court projection system.”
He added that other tributes to Chamberlain will take place throughout the game during the breaks in play.
Tickets will be available for sale to the general public starting Oct. 8 on the team’s website Sixers.com. The Philadelphia 76ers are playing the Oklahoma City Thunder at Wells Fargo Center Dec. 5.
Chamberlain holds the NBA record for scoring 100 points in a single game in 1962. He also carried his team to two separate NBA championships.
The stamps will be issued in a pane of 18.
