Hudson River School art stamps to be issued Aug. 21 at APS Stampshow
Four works of art from the 19th-century Hudson River School art movement will be honored with commemorative forever stamps to be issued Aug. 21 in Hartford, Conn.
The stamps will be issued in a booklet of 20. A ceremony will likely take place during the Aug. 21-24 American Philatelic Society’s Stampshow in Hartford.
The exact subjects of the four Hudson River School stamps have not been revealed, but were formally announced in the April 17 issue of the Postal Bulletin.
The topic of Hudson River Schools as a postage stamp subject was first reported by Linn’s in 2013 when minutes of a Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee meeting were leaked. The subject appeared again on a list of stamp subjects revealed by the Washington Post in February of this year.
The Hudson River School stamps will become the 12th issue in the American Treasures stamp series. The series began in 2001 with four 32¢ Amish Quilts stamps (Scott 3524-3527).
