June 6-8 Napex show features new-issue ceremonies

By Linn’s Staff
Napex, the East Coast’s largest postage stamp show, will be held June 6-8 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner, 7920 Jones Branch Drive, McLean, Va.
The stamp show is sponsored by National Philatelic Exhibitions of Washington, D.C., Inc.
Show hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are free.
The show will feature a bourse (sales area) of 60 dealers, including representatives from the United States Postal Service and the United Nations Postal Administration.
There will be two different events for new issues during the show. On Friday at 1 p.m. there will be a first-day ceremony for the United Nations Postal Administration’s International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation special event sheet. On Saturday at 11 a.m. a dedication event will take place for the new United States Postal Service nondenominated (73¢) U.S. Flag forever stamp.
(Further information about the new USPS Flag stamp can be found in the June 2 issue of Linn’s Stamp News.)
The Postal Service will provide a different cancellation each day of the show. Also, the show committee will sell specially produced cachets.
Preceding the USPS Flag stamp ceremony on Saturday will be a Postcrossing meetup at 10:30 a.m. For more information visit the Postcrossing website. The Capitol-Beltway Postcard Club and Linn’s Stamp News will be providing postcards for the meetup.
First-day cover producers will offer their products for sale at the cachetmakers’ bourse on Friday and Saturday.
Show organizers expect more than 200 exhibit frames at Napex. Because Napex is an American Philatelic Society World Series of Philately show, the multiframe grand award winner is eligible for the Champion of Champions competition at the Great American Stamp Show that will take place Aug. 14-17 in Schaumburg, Ill.
The Napex single-frame grand award winner will be eligible for the single-frame Champion of Champions competition at Chicagopex in Chicago Nov. 21-23.
Ross Towle will serve as chief judge of the Napex exhibition. The other jurors will be Sam Chiu, Robert Hoherz, Mark Schwartz and Kenneth Trettin, with Frederick Lutt serving as an apprentice judge.
Convening groups at this year’s show are the State Revenue Society, United Postal Stationery Society, U.S. Philatelic Classics Society and Virginia Postal History Society.
Napex 2025 will host several sessions throughout the three-day event. On Friday, American Philatelic Society executive director Scott English will host a town hall at 11 a.m., and Vern Morris will present his talk “The Postal Crisis of 1775” at 1 p.m.
Saturday sessions include “Designing Your Exhibit in Microsoft Word” by Wendy Wagner-Smith at 11:30 a.m., with both Juan Farah’s talk “Interrupted Mail during the Spanish American War” and Ed Sisken’s session “Free Franks of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence” at 1 p.m. Tim O’Connor will present “Colonial Postal History 1639-1781” at 2 p.m.
Sunday sessions include Randal Flood’s presentation “Myths and Realities of the American Revolution” at 11 a.m., and “Carried by Stage & Train: A Selection of Express Mail That Built the West” by Angelo Ismirnioglou at 1 p.m.
A special hotel rate of $134 per night is available. Visit the show website for hotel information and further show details.
