Linn’s 5,000th issue milestone in one month

Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke
In one month, with the publication of the Aug. 26, 2024, issue, Linn’s Stamp News will reach whole number 5,000.
When I was in Oklahoma City earlier this year visiting stamp friend Joe Crosby, he said that a stamp club member, John Latt, noted we would hit the 5,000 mark for Linn’s this year and that we should make sure to mark the occasion.
While I can’t send everyone a piece of cake, I would like to take the moment to solicit some reflections of the past from our readers that we could potentially use in the Letters to Linn’s page of this monumental 5,000th issue.
The first issue of Linn’s Weekly Stamp News, dated Nov. 5, 1928, was published by founder George W. Linn of Columbus, Ohio. Shown nearby is an image of the front cover of that initial publication. Whole number 1,000 came on Jan. 5, 1948, and in the Aug. 26 issue this year we will reflect on other publication milestones.
When looking at the Nov. 5, 1928, issue, I found it interesting that the entire cover was filled with advertisements from dealers selling stamps and publications, with a couple of the addresses on New York City’s famed Nassau Street where stamp dealers congregated at the time.
When thinking of reflections, if any readers have memories of direct interactions with Linn, those would be of special interest.
