Postal Updates
Heads up USPS, the Uber of shipping is here: Morning Report
Linn's Stamp News gives you a quick look at what's going on in the world of stamp-collecting.
1. Ship sharing
The U.S. Postal Service, FedEx and UPS have some new, and new-age, competition in the shipping market.
Roadie is a shipping startup founded in 2014 that connects customers who want to ship a package from one place to another with road-trippers who already planned to make the drive in an effort to offer timely shipments without major costs.
"Every day, people drive to work or school, to the grocery store, to visit friends at another college or to take family vacations. If only there were a way to piggyback onto these trips for a common good," a note from founder Marc Golin reads. "That’s why we created Roadie. It’s not a courier service. It’s not a delivery service. It’s people who were already going that way taking care of each other."
Sound familiar? Ride-share service Uber has disrupted the taxi industry by offering a similar regular-person alternative to folks wanting to save a few bucks.
2. Stamp celebrations
The March Party stamp show in Cleveland, Ohio, will host the first-day ceremony for four new stamps from the United States Postal Service. Michael Baadke tells us which stamps the ceremonies will be for.
3. Dante's Inferno
On April 9, Monaco's Office of Stamps will issue a stamp to honor the 750th birth anniversary of Italian poet Dante Alighieri, born in Florence in 1265.
