New catalog of Italian classic stamps
By Linn’s Staff
Volume 1 of Classici d’Italia,
Catalogo di Posta e Francobolli (Classics of Italy Postal Philatelic Catalogue),
a new bilingual catalog of classic Italian stamps, is available.
The catalog of 256 color pages by
Franco Filanci and Domenico Tagliente is presented in both Italian and English.
Separate chapters of the catalog cover postal progress in Italian states and
islands.
Free franking is examined in great
detail, and the catalog devotes two full pages to correct postal tariffs from
1863 to 1967. Tariffs for mail to foreign destinations are also included.
In a review, Giorgio Migliavacca,
author of 18 books on philately and postal history, said the authors explain
complex developments using plain language.
“Due credit must be given to the
authors and publishers of this catalogue for a great attention to details which
are brought to the attention of the readers by high quality photography of
varieties,” Migliavacca said. “This catalogue was planned as the international
version of Novellario and Maillenial [catalogs] with a good quota of English
translations to share crucial information with the ever-increasing number of
keen collectors of the Italian area philately and postal history.”
The softcover bound book can be ordered for €40 (approximately $41.50) plus shipping by sending an email to info@laserinvest.com.
