New sprayed-on postmark for the 2024 holiday season

Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke
A single snowman appears on a new
holiday sprayed-on postmark that likely went into use nationwide on Dec. 2.
The example pictured nearby turned up
on mail received in the Linn’s offices in Sidney, Ohio, in early
December from the closest mail processing plant in Columbus, Ohio.
The Dec. 3 postmark has an unusually
clear strike of the design that shows a smiling snowman with the uppercase text
“HAPPY” along with “Holidays” in a script font.
I thought the postmark went quite
well with the franking on the envelope (shown cropped): a Happy forever stamp
(Scott 5924) from the 10 Pinback Buttons issue (5919-5928) issued in August.
For collectors who find postmarks
interesting, I highly recommend checking out the website of the Post Mark
Collectors Club.
You can explore sections on the
website, which include directories of post offices and information on the
Margie Pfund Memorial Postmark Museum and Research Library near Bellevue, Ohio.
The club’s website also showcases an
impressive collection of more than 30,000 photos of post offices in the United
States, U.S. territories and some other countries.
I have visited the museum and found it to be very interesting and worth a stop if you find yourself traveling near Cleveland, Ohio.
