Odd plate block covers

If you’re a fan of plate blocks on
cover, I’ve got two unusual examples to show you in this week’s column. The
first is a first-day cover for the 15¢ James Buchanan Presidential, or Prexie,
series stamp (Scott 820) issued Oct. 27, 1938.
Shown in Figure 1 is the only example
I’ve seen in which the person preparing the cover added a plate block of the
stamp being replaced by the 1938 15¢ James Buchanan Prexie stamp, that being
the 1923 15¢ Statue of Liberty stamp (Scott 566) of the Fourth Bureau Issue.
I’m thinking that whoever created
this cover likely did the same thing for some or all of the other Prexie series
issues. Have readers seen other similar first-day plate block covers from the
