Design award for San Marino's 3D Printing Revolution stamps
A set of three stamps from San Marino commemorating the 3D printing revolution was awarded the D&AD (Design and Art Direction) Pencil Award for 2015 in the professional graphic design stamps category at the international design awards April 19-23 in London, England.
The stamps, issued March 10, feature designs by American illustrator Andy Rementer, who also created the Techno Tuesday comic strip. The stamp designs symbolize the 3D printing of food; of more complex and elaborate objects; and of living tissues or organs, also called bioprinting.
Cartor Security Printing printed the stamps by offset in sheets of 20.

In the press release announcing the award, the San Marino Office of Philately and Numismatics said, “It is the most important British award for advertising and graphic design, which can be compared to the Oscar for cinematography. D&AD is a British charitable institution founded in 1962 by a group of revolutionary creative artists from London. The Award celebrates every year the best creativity for branding, advertising, video, illustration, photograph and all visual communication disciplines.”
In determining the awards, the jury examined more than 20,000 works from design studios, advertising companies and independent creative artists from around the world.
