Scenic Rocky Mountain show set for May 23-25

By Linn’s Staff
The Rocky Mountain Stamp Show,
sponsored by the nonprofit Rocky Mountain Philatelic Exhibitions Inc., has
selected native “Scenic Colorado” as the theme for the 2025 show.
The event will take place May 23-25
at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds, 25690 E. Quincy Ave., Aurora, Colo.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are
free.
The show will feature at least 32
dealers, 13 society and activity booths and up to 400 exhibit frames. In
accordance with the show theme, there will be three show cachets available, one
for each day, each reflecting Colorado’s scenic beauty.
The George Brett Cup, which honors an
exhibit of 20th-century material, will be awarded by the American Association
of Philatelic Exhibitors.
This is the eighth year the Rocky
Mountain show has been selected to host the competition for the cup. To
qualify, an exhibit must have earned a grand or reserve grand award at a stamp
show during the previous three years.
The Rocky Mountain Stamp Show is an
American Philatelic Society World Series of Philately show. The multiframe
grand award winner is eligible for the Champion of Champions competition at the
Great American Stamp Show in Schaumburg, Ill., Aug. 14-17.
The 2025 exhibit jury includes
chairman Darrell Ertzberger along with David Bell, Matt Kewriga, Van Siegling,
Pat Walters and backup jurors Andrew Kelley and Timothy Bartshe.
The Rocky Mountain show will host a
United States Postal Service first-day ceremony for the Baby Wild Animals
stamps on Friday at 11 a.m. Following the ceremony, at noon there will be a
Postcrossing event meetup. For more information about the meetup, visit the
Postcrossing website.
Societies in attendance at the 2025
show will include the American Air Mail Society, Scandinavian Collectors Club,
Colorado Postal History Society and Great Britain Commonwealth Club of
Colorado.
Among the sessions being presented
Friday are “Philatelic Writing” by Bruce Wasserman at 10 a.m., “Basics of
Exhibiting” with Steve McGill at 2 p.m., and “Stamp Collecting for the
Millennials” hosted by Heather Castle at 2 p.m.
Saturday’s sessions include “Maps on
Stamps” by Steve Nadler at noon, and Ken Sanford presenting “Collecting Air
Crash Covers” at 1 p.m.
On each day of the show, there will
be a “What’s in Your Attic?” table, where collectors will provide free,
no-obligation evaluations of stamp collections for those who have inherited
collections and others who want to learn about their holdings and philatelic
terminology.
The show also will feature a Boy
Scout stamp collecting merit badge workshop on Sunday at 10 a.m. Seating is
limited, and registration is required.
The Colorado Young Philatelic
Explorers and Researchers Stamp Club (CYPHER) will have other youth activities
throughout the show.
The Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library auction will run throughout the weekend, concluding on Sunday. Various philatelic items will be up for bids. More information can be found on the library’s auction website.
