Self-nominations open for American First Day Cover Society board of directors
By Linn’s Staff
Self-nominations are open for the American First Day Cover Society board of directors, the society announced in a July 13 press release.
Directors are expected to attend the annual in-person AFDCS meeting at the Americover convention, participate in email discussions, and vote electronically on matters that come before the board.
Nominees must be AFDCS members in good standing and are expected to submit a photograph and statement of no more than 300 words. Those interested should contact AFDCS nominating committee chair Mark Gereb at rec.sec@afdcs.org for more information.
Candidates will be announced during Americover, the annual convention of the AFDCS, held this year in conjunction with the Great American Stamp Show taking place Aug. 14-17 in Schaumburg, Ill.
Ballots and candidate statements will be mailed to AFDCS members in the fall, and the new term begins Jan. 1, 2026.
The AFDCS elects four people to serve on its board of directors each year. Members of the board serve three-year terms.
The society president, editor of First Days and the general counsel also serve on the board, if not otherwise elected, along with the 12 elected members. American First Day Cover Society directors are not compensated for serving on the board.
The American First Day Cover Society is the largest not-for-profit first-day-cover society in the world, with members in more than a dozen countries. It publishes an award-winning journal, First Days, six times a year; holds fundraising auctions; maintains a YouTube channel; conducts an annual cachetmaking contest; and encourages philatelic exhibiting and writing about FDCs.
More information about the AFDCS is available online at www.afdcs.net or by writing the AFDCS at Box 57, Somerset, WI 54025-0057.
