Stamp collecting highlighted in new Taiwan set of six

On July 3, Taiwan’s Chunghwa Post issued the second set of six commemorative stamps in its Recreational Activities series.

According to the press release, the set of stamps is designed to “promote healthy and happy lifestyles and to encourage parent-child bonding.”

Each stamp is denominated NT$8 (NT$ stands for new Taiwan dollars), approximately 25¢ in U.S. currency.

The press release describes the six designs as “Parent-Child Stamp Collecting,” “Educational Board Games,” “Indoor Rock Climbing,” “Music Appreciation,” “Elderly Sing-Alongs” and “Energetic Yoga.”

It’s the Stamp Collecting stamp that caught my attention. How cool is it that stamp collecting ranks high enough to take the first position on the block of six stamps shown nearby?

The design seems to feature a grandparent, a parent and a child looking at a stock book and interacting with other stamp items.

The cacheted first-day cover Chunghwa Post created for the stamp issue even features an enlarged image of the design used for the Stamp Collecting stamp.

Taiwan’s first set of six Recreational Activities stamps (Scott 4695) was issued July 12, 2023, and features families reading together, making cupcakes, practicing guitar, visiting an art museum, camping and cycling.
