Stamp Identifier: Curacao
Netherlands Antilles 1873-1949
The name Curacao has appeared on stamps during two different periods of history, but from the same general region. The earliest stamps of Netherlands Antilles were either inscribed or overprinted with the name Curacao. All are single-color stamps except the overprinted issues, a 1943 pictorial set showing views of the islands, and some airmail sets. Beginning in 1949, stamps for this area would be inscribed “Nederlandse Antillen.”
Curacao 2010-
In 2010, the Netherlands Antilles ceased to be, and the island components St. Martin (Sint Maarten) and Curacao became independent countries issuing their own stamps. The new stamps of Curacao are mostly multicolor lithographed issues and are listed in the Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue under the heading Curacao. The 1873-1949 stamps of Netherlands Antilles inscribed Curacao are listed under Netherlands Antilles.
