Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke

This year is off to a great start for a few stamp shows that are hosting first-day ceremonies. And here’s hoping that this trend of first-day ceremonies at shows continues as more issue dates are revealed beyond March.

So far, on Jan. 24 the Southeastern Stamp Expo show will host the issuance of the nondenominated ($1.65) 1794 Compass Rose global forever stamp in Peachtree Corners, Ga. Appropriately Linn’s Stamp News is also sponsoring the postcard to be handed out at a Postcrossing meetup on the first day of the show, the same day the stamp is to be issued.

Details of the 1 p.m. meetup can be found online. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP as to how many postcards you want for the meetup and we will make sure to produce enough for all those attending the event.

Shown nearby is the Postcrossing postcard with a compass-related theme that will be handed out at the meetup.

Another show with a first-day ceremony in the first quarter of 2025 is the San Diego Stamp Show, in San Diego, Calif., which on Feb. 21 will host a first-day event for the two nondenominated (10¢) American Vistas presorted standard stamps showing a mountain scene and a beach scene.

Then, on March 14, the five nondenominated (56¢) Vibrant Leaves postcard-rate stamps will debut during the Garfield-Perry March Party stamp show in Strongsville, Ohio.

It is quite likely that Postcrossing meetups will take place at both of those shows as well.

Here’s to looking ahead to a great year of stamp shows in 2025.
