Third plate number reported on Art Deco Bird nonprofit stamp

A third plate number has been found for the United States nondenominated (5¢) Art Deco Bird nonprofit coil stamp (Scott 4495).

Plate number coil dealer Michael Lipson discovered the single on-cover used example in June and reported his find to Linn’s. The new plate number is P3333. It is shown here digitally cropped from the cover.

The printed mailer’s postmark permit indicates the cover was sent from ZIP code 21666, Stevensville, Md.

Linn’s is unaware of mint examples being reported as of early August.

U.S. Postal Service spokesman Mark Saunders told Linn’s that the new number was assigned because the printer, Ashton Potter, noted a paper change.

There is no phosphor taggant used on this low-denomination coil stamp, and Lipson confirmed that the new number did not have taggant.

There is not a specific USPS item number assigned for the new plate number.

The Art Deco Bird stamp was issued Feb. 11, 2011, with plate number P1111 being the first reported. In October 2011, P2222 was discovered.

The plate number interval is every 27th stamp in the coil.
