U.S. 2014 Songbirds booklet pane in demand

Stamp Market Tips by Henry Gitner and Rick Miller
Relatively recent forever stamps with se-tenant (side-by-side) designs remain one of the hottest segments of the U.S. stamp market.
On April 5, 2014, the U. S. Postal Service issued a set of 10 nondenominated (49¢) Songbirds forever stamps in double-sided booklet panes of 20 (Scott 4891b) with two stamps of each design. The stamps were designed by Derry Noyes and printed by Ashton Potter (USA) Ltd. The lithographed stamps were printed on tagged paper and have gauge 10¾ serpentine die cuts on two or three sides.
Design subjects include the western meadowlark, mountain bluebird, western tanager, painted bunting, Baltimore oriole, evening grosbeak, scarlet tanager, rose-breasted grosbeak, American goldfinch and white-throated sparrow. This set is very popular with bird topical collectors.
The Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps and Covers values the intact booklet pane of 20 at $30. The intact booklet of 20 with a current postage value of $14.60 is a good buy at up to $25.Connect with Linn’s Stamp News:
