USPS announces price changes for shipping services in 2025

The United States Postal Service announced Nov. 15 that it has filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission to raise prices for shipping services that will take effect Jan. 19, 2025.

According to the USPS, the proposed changes were approved by the board of governors during their Nov. 14 meeting at Postal Service headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The Postal Regulatory Commission will review the changes before they are scheduled to take effect, the USPS said in a Nov. 15 press release.

Prices for Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express are set to increase 3.2 percent. USPS Ground Advantage prices will increase 3.9 percent, and Parcel Select service will jump 9.2 percent.

Linn’s reported in the Oct. 14 issue that the USPS does not plan to raise prices for what it calls “Mailing Services” in January 2025. The price of a forever stamp will remain at 73¢.

“Although Mailing Services price increases are based on the consumer price index, Shipping Services prices are primarily adjusted according to market conditions,” the Postal Service said.

“As a strategic part of the Delivering for America 10-year plan, these proposed changes will support the Postal Service in creating a revitalized organization capable of achieving our public service mission … in a cost-effective and financially sustainable manner over the long term, just as the U.S. Congress has intended,” the USPS said.

The price tables are available on the Postal Service’s Postal Explorer website.
